In recent years, pharmaceuticals have shown a tendency toward increasingly complex molecular structures, with some molecules exceeding 1000 Da. As a result, there are concerns that they may have difficulty penetrating the narrow pores (10-15nm) of conventional ODS columns, leading to poor peak shapes. This issue arises from the uneven diffusion of substances within the pores and the difficulty in end-capping smaller pore sizes, which increases the influence of residual silanols.

The Cadenza CW-C18 is a high-performance ODS column utilizing wide-pore silica with a pore size of 30nm, employing the same ODS ligand introduction and unique polymeric end-capping process as Cadenza CD-C18. While its specific surface area is one-third that of CD-C18, resulting in shorter retention under the same conditions, its hydrophobic recognition capability (hydrophobic interactions) is equivalent. As a result, it enables faster separations compared to CD-C18 while maintaining good response for large molecules around 500 Da and above. Its ability to facilitate the elution of highly hydrophobic compounds like phospholipids is also a notable feature.

Due to its wide pores, CW-C18 achieves efficient end-capping, promising excellent results in the analysis of basic compounds and antibiotics. Furthermore, CW-C18 is a high-density ODS column that can use 100% aqueous mobile phases, making it useful for analyzing highly polar compounds.
