LC-MS/MS Analysis of Catecholamines in Animal Brain (Parkinson's Disease Model)
In the analysis of brain catecholamines, highly polar endogenous substances can interfere with the analysis, making LC-MS/MS analysis highly effective. However, highly polar substances like amino acids and GABA are difficult to retain and analyze using conventional ODS columns.
Using the reversed-phase + dual ion-exchange Scherzo SS-C18 column, it was found that the following substances in rat brain could be analyzed:
PCh, Asp, 5-HIAA, Glu, GABA, iso-ACh, ACh, DA, 5-HT
The Scherzo SS-C18 column enables the direct LC-MS/MS analysis of amino acids, GABA, monoamines, and other substances without derivatization, which is expected to play a significant role in understanding the pathology of diseases such as Parkinson's disease.
