Unison UK-Phenyl is a reversed-phase column with a phenyl group as the stationary phase. Compared to ODS columns, it provides shorter retention but offers different separation selectivity due to the electrostatic interactions of the conjugated π-electrons on the stationary phase. It excels in distinguishing the electrostatic interactions of substituents, especially in aromatic isomers.

For substances that exhibit coordination interactions, such as complexes, it tends to provide better peak shapes compared to alkyl stationary phases. Additionally, because the phenyl stationary phase has a relatively poor recognition of carbon functional groups, it has a convenient ability to consolidate isomers of branched-chain carbon compounds into a single peak.

Unison UK-Phenyl is expected to be effective for substances that cannot be separated using ODS columns.
