Traditional silica-based columns are mechanically strong but prone to dissolution in alkali solutions. On the other hand, polymer-based columns are resistant to alkali, but their soft packing materials can swell or shrink with changes in organic solvent concentration, leading to potential degradation in column performance.
In recent years, hybrid silica ODS columns with alkyl cross-linking structures have enhanced alkali resistance in the silica framework. However, to modify the pore surface with octadecyl groups, silanol groups are essential, and residual unmodified silanols require end-capping, posing concerns about alkaline erosion similar to conventional columns.
Advantages of this Product
The new product, DACAPO DX-C18, features a world-first "Dual-Matrix" structure as its packing material.
This structure completely covers the alkali-sensitive porous silica surface with an organic polymer while introducing C18 ligands. It combines alkali resistance with mechanical strength. By nearly completely shielding silica-derived silanols, it theoretically eliminates non-specific interactions caused by residual silanols and minimizes alkali hydrolysis attributed to silanols.
